PEST POWDER |
How
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth Works
Comprised of diatomaceous (dye-atom-ay’-shus) earth, or "DE," a mineral substance formed by the fossil remains of prehistoric algae, this powder is fine and smooth to the touch. As you can see from the picture of Diatomaceous Earth - (magnified
7000 times) - it looks like a cylinder full of holes--kind of
like Rice Chex Cereal. Diatomaceous Earth is very hard. On the harness scale where diamonds
are a 9, Diatomaceous Earth is a 7. This cylinder has a very strong negative
charge. As these millions of cylinders move through the stomach
and digestive tract, they attract and absorb bacteria, fungi,
protozoa, viruses, endotoxins, pesticide and
drug residues, E-Coli, and heavy metals. These are trapped inside
the cylinder and passed out of the body. While non-toxic to people and pets, at the microscopic level, it is razor-sharp. It is lethal to any larger
parasites that happen to be in the stomach of the
digestive tract as well as insect pests like fleas and ticks whose shells are cut up and killed by the sharp edges of
the Diatomaceous Earth as the powder covers their bodies. Fleas, along with their eggs and larvae, become dehydrated and die within hours when exposed to this powerful substance. In addition, a small amount of Diatomaceous Earth gets absorbed into the blood
stream as silica, which has many benefits which are described
in Pets and Animals and in Human Use.
Cautions: As with any fine powder, overexposure may cause respiratory discomfort, so remove pets and small children to other areas when applying in the home or yard, and avoid inhaling the dust during application. It is a good idea to wear a mask if you are applying it over a large area and billows of dust may be created. If you have a compromised respiratory system, consider having a friend or family member apply the powder at a time when you are out of the house.
Diatomaceous earth is a drying agent, and may cause moderate eye irritation, so avoid contact with the eyes. Flush liberally with water if contact with the eyes occurs.
Kritter Kountry's Pest Powder is comprised of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth which is non-toxic and safe for your pet and family members. It will not harm pets if they lick their fur. Ingestion of or skin contact with Kritter Kountry's Pest Powder will not harm pets or people. It is very important to remember to ONLY use Food Grade Diamtomaceous Earth.

Food
Grade Diatomaceous Earth - Pets and Animals
Food
grade Diatomaceous Earth is organic, completely safe and non-toxic.
Dogs,
Cats, Birds & Pocket Pets
Anti-Parasitic: When lightly rubbed into their coats or dusted on their premises,
it is very effective against fleas, ticks, lice, and other pests. This mechanical, rather than chemical killing action protects your pets and the environment because it doesn’t create chemically resistant "super fleas," which become increasingly harder to eradicate. It also protects your human and animal family members, as it won’t pollute your home or our water supply with chemical residues that can linger in our bodies and the environment for years, causing damage to our health, and the health of our planet. The versatile, odorless powder can be safely applied everywhere fleas hide – directly in pets’ fur, in their bedding, carpets, furniture, and even in your yard. This is extra bad news for fleas, since most of their growth and reproduction time is spent around rather than on your pet. Pest Powder can penetrate the smallest spaces and the closest of carpet weaves to get at the fleas where they are most vulnerable and break their reproductive cycle. Pest Powder will make your pets and your home flea-free within weeks – with no chemicals, toxins, fumes, oily residues, or unnatural substances of any kind. Pest Powder is an effective and safe flea control that's economical. There's no need to pay a lot for chemical treatments that have too high a cost, in more ways than one.
How to apply to your pet: Sprinkle a small amount of Pest Powder along your pet's spine and rub into their fur against the direction of hair growth. Get the powder close to the skin, but do not rub it into the skin. Apply to all other areas of the body, especially the belly, legs, and feet. The powder must come into contact with the fleas to be effective, so working it through the fur thorougly is important. Apply gently and avoid creating billows of dust that may be inhaled by you or your pet.
How much and how often to use:
1 - 2 teaspoons for an average size cat or similar sized small animal such as a ferret or rabbit.
1 - 6 tablespoons for a dog, depending on size.
For mild to moderate infestations, re-apply every 3 - 10 days.
For severe infestations, apply frequently in the beginning, daily if needed.
As the problem improves, decrease the frequency of application. Always re-apply after bathing, but wait until the fur is dry. It is recommended that you thoroughly bathe your pet before the first application, if possible.
De-Wormer:
It can also be used as an organic wormer and will kill any worms
or parasites the pets may have. When using as a de-wormer, mix
the Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth into their food as follows:
*
Large Cats - 1 teaspoon
* Kittens - 1/4 teaspoon
* Dogs 100 lbs + - 1-2 tablespoons
* Dogs 50 - 100lbs - 1 tablespoon
* Dogs Under 50 lbs - 1 teaspoon
* Mini dogs - 1/2 teaspoon
Skeletal:
Joints and ligiments will be stronger as pets age with Diatomaceous
Earth in their diet.
Odor
Control: Apply to moist kennel areas to reduce odors, dry
the area, and prevent pest breeding. Deodorizing and absorption
are natural functions of DE, so add to kitty litter to absorb
odors and keep the litter box drier.
Horses, Cows, Pigs, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits, Chickens
*
Control of fleas and ticks.
* Stimulates basic metabolism.
* Converts feed better.
* Reduces the desire to lick soil.
* Scouring or diarrhea: When fed it acts as a material that draws
both virus and bacteria out of the body and solidifies the stool.
* Reduces odor and moisture in barns and stalls.
* Better coat and hoof condition.
* Keeps fly larvae from developing in manure, noticeably reducing
the fly population.
* Reduces annual vet bills - Decreased Mortality.
* In Cattle: Decreased Mastitis.
* Dairy Cattle: Increased milk production.
* Kills parasites without chemicals.
* Better egg production, stronger eggs, and reduces overall animal
stress.
* Added to livestock waters, will prevent algae from growing .
Suggested Feeding and Application Rates:
*
Beef Cattle: 1% of total weight of dry ration 5% in grain or 1oz.
per day.
* Dairy Cattle 1% of total weight of dry ration or 1 oz. per day.
* Calves 4 grams in morning milk per calf or 2 oz. per day in
feed.
* Chickens 5% in feed, use at full strength in dusting boxes.
* Hogs 2% of total feed ration, dust or spray on bedding and animals.
* Horses 5 ounces (1 cup) in daily feed ration.
*
Sheep 1% in ground grains or 1 part Diatomaceous Earth to 2 parts
T-M salt.
* Goats 1% in grain, 1/2 oz per day, up to 50% in T-M salt.
* For large animals, DE may also be offered "free Choice" as long
as dispenser is protedcted from the wind. Livestock will also
get the benefit of over 14 trace minerals that make up Diatomaceous
Earth.
NEVER
feed any other type of DIATOMACEOUS EARTH to any animal, other
than the FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH.

Food
Grade Diatomaceous Earth - Human Use
Diatomaceous
Earth is 84% Silicon Dioxide (Silica). In 1939, the Nobel Prize
winner for chemistry, Professor Adolf Butenant, proved that life
can not exist without Silica. In the 2003 book "Water & Salt"
Dr. Barbara Hendel states: "Silica it the most important trace
mineral for human health!" Silica plays an important role in many
body functions and has a direct relationship to mineral absorption.
The average human body holds approximately seven grams of silica,
a quantity far exceeding the figures for other important minerals
such as iron.
Benefits
of Silica
Lowers
High Blood Pressure: Thousands of people with high blood pressure
using Diatomaceous Earth have reported that it has significantly
gone down.
Lowers
High Cholesterol: Just as Diatomaceous Earth has been lowering
blood pressure, it has also been lowering cholesterol. Most reports
show a lowering of 40-60 points after only 2 weeks on DE.
Osteoporosis:
is a symptom of the aging process. As calcium in our body system
depletes, our bones become brittle and weak. Taking only a calcium
supplement can not correct or stop this threatening and crippling
disease because the body cannot assimilate and make use of the
calcium without the presence of silica. Evidence suggests that,
instead of affecting healing, supplemental mineral calcium, on
the contrary, accelerates the leaching away of bone calcium and
thus hastens the degenerative process of osteoporosis and similar
diseases that affect the supportive and connective tissues in
the human body. For osteoporosis, silica can stop the pain and
even restore the bodies self repair process. Osteoporosis symptoms
attack women primarily after menopause but the degenerative process
starts much earlier in their younger days. More women are dying
of fractures caused by osteoporosis than of cancer of the breast,
cervix, and uterus combined. Silica is responsible for the depositing
of minerals into the bones, especially calcium. It speeds up the
healing of fractures and also reduces scarring at the site of
a fracture. More and more research evidence shows that through
a transmutation process, silica is turned into calcium when it
is needed. That is why some scientists refer to silica as a precursor
of calcium. Even when calcium is insufficient, the body can turn
silica into calcium that the bones need.
Natural
Weight Loss: Reports from all over the United States have
stated that DE is helping people lose weight. DE taken in the
morning helps curb appetite throughout the day.
Nature's
Internal Cosmetic: In Europe and Asia Diatomaceous Earth is
used extensively as a health and beauty product for hair, skin,
nails, bones, and joints. They have no FDA. Tissue degeneration
accelerates due to aging when connective tissue develops an increasing
inability to retain moisture when left unassisted. Silica can
help slow the degenerative process of connective tissue. With
silica, vitality and life, which are often lost as the years accumulate,
can be naturally maintained or even restored to your skin. Collagen,
largely made up of silica, is the glue that holds us together.
If our body has enough silica glucosaminoglycane, the collagen
will make us look younger. Silica helps with skin problems and
injuries including itching, rashes, abscesses, boils, acne, callouses,
warts, eczemas, burns, frostbite, benign skin sores, insect bites
and bed sores. A good silica supplementation program can work
far better than other products for maintaining healthier and longer
lasting collagen.
Hair
Supplement: Hair is nature's greatest beauty enhancer. Hair
at 90 micrograms per gram is almost as rich in silica as are healthy
bones, which contain 100 micrograms per gram. Silica is a major
component of hair. Using a good silica supplement should be part
of an ongoing hair care program for revitalizing hair. Silica
helps to prevent baldness, stimulates healthier hair growth and
assures beautiful shine, luster and strength.
Teeth
and Gums: By hardening the enamel, silica prevents cavities
and preserves teeth. Silica also prevents bleeding gums, gum atrophy,
and recession that causes the loosening of teeth, which could
ultimately lead to tooth loss. Silica effectively fights ulceration
and the decay of bones, teeth and also lessens inflammation.
Nails:
Nail plates are complex protein structures that grow four to five
millimeters per month on average. With silica supplementation,
fragile nails become normal within a short period of time. Silica
will beautify the appearance of your nails and improve their hardness,
making them shinier and less prone to breaking. The restorative
effects of silica will be most noticeable on your hair, skin,
nails and teeth. Skin and hair require silica essentially for
the same purpose as do other tissues.
More
Benefits:
* Silica
lowers bad cholesterol and raises good.
*
Silica fades age spots.
* Silica stimulates metabolism for higher energy levels.
* Diatomaceous earth has a negative charge and bacteria has a
positive charge. DE sweeps bacteria out of the body by trapping
it in it's honeycomb shaped skeletal form.
* Silica supplementation helps repair and maintain vital lung
tissues and protects them from pollution. By maintaining or restoring
the elasticity of lung tissues, silica reduces inflammation in
bronchitis.
* Silica tones the upper respiratory tract (nose, pharynx, larynx)
and reduces swelling because of its positive action on the lymphatic
system.
* Silica supplementation keeps menopause free of stress and helps
to prevent many unwanted side-effects of menopause.
* Silica works with other antioxidants to prevent premature aging
and to preserve youthfulness.
* Silica can help prevent kidney stones and heal infections of
the urinary tract. It is a natural diuretic which can increase
excretion of urine by 30 percent, thus flushing the water-excreting
system and restoring normal function to these vital organs.
* The presence of sufficient silica in the intestines will reduce
inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can cause disinfection
in the case of stomach and intestinal mucus and ulcers. Silica
can prevent or clear up diarrhea and its opposite, constipation.
* Silica will help normalize hemorrhoidal tissues.
* Silica proves effective with female discharge, abscesses and
ulcers in the genital area and cervix, as well as mastitis (especially
for breast feeding mothers).
* Silica can normalize circulation and regulate high blood pressure
(hypertension).
* Silica can decrease vertigo, headache, tinnitus (buzzing of
the ears) and insomnia.
* Silica can help diabetes by promoting synthesis of elastase
inhibitor by the pancreas.
* Silica can help arterial disease by strengthening the blood
vessels. Studies confirm that with age, silica disappears from
the aorta, the heart's key blood vessel thus weakening its critical
connective tissue and resulting in a greater cardiac risk.
* Silica can help prevent Tuberculosis.
* By improving the elasticity of the joints, silica helps rheumatism.
* Silica has inhibitory effects on coronary diseases.
* Silica can help avoid or alleviate Alzheimers disease by preventing
the body from absorbing aluminum and may flush out aluminum from
the tissues.
*Silica can stimulate the immune system.
Dosage:
Daily silica needs of humans are 20-30 mg. In Years past, our
bodies would get enough silica from our diet. Unfortunately, many
of the foods we now eat have lost their nutritional value due
to soil nutrient depletion, food processing, and chemicals. Supplemental
use of Perma-Guard Diatomaceous Earth is essential to total body
health.
Daily Doseage: 1 or 2 heaping tablespoons of Diatomaceous
Earth daily. Mix with juice or water or put in protein shakes,
applesauce or yogurt. There is no unpleasant taste. Since it will
not dissolve, stirring several times while drinking will prevent
settling. Some have experienced higher energy levels, so it is
probably better not to take it right before sleeping. No worry
about getting too much--any excess silica not needed by the body
is automatically eliminated through the blood stream, kidneys
and intestines.

Food
Grade Diatomaceous Earth - Organic pest control
Diatomaceous
Earth is a natural, organic insect killer. Diatomaceous Earth
kills by physical action and not by chemical so there is
NO harm to pets or humans. The tiny hard and sharp diatoms
scratch off the insects waxy coating, causing it to dehydrate.
Use Diatomaceous Earth for control of fleas, ticks, roaches, silverfish, ants,
fire ants, bedbugs, lice, mites, spiders, earwigs, flies, box elder bugs, crabs(std), pubic and hair lice, scorpions, crickets,
carpet beetles, grasshoppers, centipedes, millipedes, and slugs. Diatomaceous Earth can be used in and
around the home, yard, animal housing, etc.
Sprinkle
a 2 inch wide border around the foundation of your house to prevent
insects from entering. Diatomaceous Earth will not harm earthworms
or beneficial soil microorganisms.
Bedbugs:
All over the United States we are seeing an outbreak of bedbugs.
DE will not only kill the bedbugs you have, but will do it safely
without chemicals. Remember-bed bugs cannot fly, so make sure
bed is away from the wall and there is no bedding touching the
floor. Surround each of the 4 legs of the bed with DE--this will
kill them as they try to get on the bed the only way possible.
Dust some DE on the matress and bedding--especially in the creases.
Dust DE in the carpets and in corners of room. Remove electrical
outlet covers and puff some DE inside the walls. Keep this routine
up for several days.
Pubic
Lice(Crabs) and Hair Lice: Dust Diatomaceous Earth on all
areas of the body that are infested with the Lice (Crabs). Also
dust your bedding and the rooms you have been in with DE.
Plant
Pests: For control of aphids, white fly, beetles, loopers,
mites, snails, slugs, leaf hoppers, and others, use Diatomaceous
Earth inside your home, greenhouse or outdoors on fruits, vegetables,
flowers, grains and grass, up to and including day of harvest.
For dry application of Diatomaceous Earth use a duster and cover
entire plant, apply to both top and bottom of leaf. For young
plants, as little as two pounds per acre may be adequate. For
larger plants, five lbs. per acre is probably sufficient. Diatomaceous
Earth will need reapplication after a rain. Applies best when
there is dew or after a light rain. It is a long lasting, effective
powder. The insects can not build up resistance. DE can be sprayed
or whitewashed by mixing 1 cup DE with 1/2 Gallon of water. Stir
frequently and spray/paint trees, yards, and fences. Diatomaceous
Earth will not harm earthworms or beneficial soil microorganisms.
Wear a dust mask when applying large amounts.
Stored
Grain: Just add 7-10 lbs. of Diatomaceous Earth to each ton
of grain as it is conveyed into the storage. When added to grain,
it not only makes it flow better, Diatomaceous Earth kills the
bugs that are present and protects the grain from further invasions.
Bugs can not become immune because they are killed by physical
action, not chemical. Any food grade diatomaceous earth uses other
than those approved by the EPA, FDA, or USDA are strictly reports

Food
Grade Diatomaceous Earth - Household Uses
Carpeting: First vacuum the carpet thoroughly and make sure it is dry. If fleas are already present, be sure to discard the vacuum cleaner bag immediately after vacuuming. Sprinkle a light coating of Pest Powder over an area and using a broom or carpet rake, work it as deeply into the carpet pile as possible until it does not show. Hold the bottle low and shake gently when applying to minimize the dust created (see caution below). Use a broom to sweep up excess visible in surrounding non-carpeted areas.
Leave the powder in place for 3 days and then do a light vacuuming to pull out the dead fleas. It is important that powder deep in the pile remains in place for several weeks so that larvae hatching from eggs and new adults coming out of cocoons during this time will be killed as well. If you must vacuum thoroughly within the first 3 weeks after applying, re-apply 3 weeks after the date of first application, and again let the powder sit for 3 days and then vacuum.
Furniture or Bedding: Sprinkle a light coating and work it into cracks and crevices, then vacuum or sweep away excess visible powder. Be sure to apply under small area rugs, bedding, and furniture, as this is where the eggs and larvae will accumulate.
Flooring and Baseboards: Sprinkle lightly and work into cracks and crevices with a broom, then sweep up excess visible powder.
How much and how often to use: Use about 2 Tablespoons for every 10 feet of area. You may need to re-apply, depending on the severity of your flea infestation: If there is still flea activity after two weeks, re-apply 3 weeks from date of original application.
If you have vacuumed deeply within in the first 3 weeks of application, re-apply 3 weeks from original application date
If you have a moderate to severe infestation (i.e., more than 1-2 fleas seen on the pet, itching or fleas present for more than a week), or live in an area with an extended or multiple flea seasons, plan to re-apply in areas your pet frequents every 3-8 weeks, as adult fleas and pupae in cocoons can remain dormant for extended periods of time - be ready for the second wave!
Metal
Cleaner: Make a paste with Diatomaceous Earth and water to
make a metal polish. Diatomaceous Earth also makes a very inexpensive
soft scrub for the shower, sink and faucets.
Face
Mask and Cleanser: Mix Diatomaceous Earth and water together
untill you have made a paste. Apply to the face with circular
scrubbing motion untill face is fully covered. Leave on face for
approx. 2 min. and then wash off with warm water. Your face will
be fully exfoliated and toned for pennies!!! Mix Diatomaceous
Earth with your favorite cleanser and you will have cleaner, smoother
skin.
Teeth
Cleaner: Sprinkle a small amount on your favorite brand of
toothpaste and brush as you normally would. You will notice that
your teeth look and feel "Just went to the Dentist" Clean.
